Dr. Amy Brock, formerly of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, has joined The University of Texas at Austin as an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Brock focuses on understanding cancer as a complex biological system. To gain insights into the disease, Brock applies a systems-based approach to examine the underlying gene regulatory networks that define cancer cell states. By integrating approaches from dynamic systems, computational sciences, microfabrication, and molecular cell biology, Brock seeks to tackle fundamental questions of tumor cell alterations. Her group is particularly interested in understanding the earliest cellular changes that contribute to breast cancer and in elucidating the heterogeneity that underlies variation in response to therapies.
Brock has been recognized with the Bristol Myers Squibb Oncology Award, a Susan G. Komen Scholar-in-Training Award and the Merck Fellowship for Graduate Study. She received her B.S. in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her Ph.D. in Biomedical and Biological Sciences from Harvard University.
