Mehul Sampat, a Biomedical Engineering PhD student studying under Dr. Alan Bovik - Primary Supervisor, and Mia Markey - Co-Supervisor, has received a 2003 Pre-Doctoral Traineeship Award from the Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP).

The BCRP is funded under the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The three-year award totals $90,000 for research in Detection of Spiculated Masses and Architectural Distortions in Digitized Mammograms. Mehul’s research was initially supported by a Seed Grant from the BME department at UT, Austin.

Mehul’s proposal was subjected to a stringent two-tier review process; the first tier being a scientific peer review, and the second tier a programmatic review. From hundreds of submittals, Mehul's proposal was rated as outstanding. Congratulations to Mehul for this exceptional achievement.
