Short-term Summer Programs

The Maymester is a 4-week term between the spring and summer; the courses are offered in the spring course schedule and tuition is charged as a part of spring flat-rate tuition. This allows students to study abroad with a UT Austin professor, take a UT Austin course that counts toward their degree, and return in time for second term summer session.

BME 320 International Perspectives on Biomedical Engineering Maymester is offered by Biomedical Engineering Professor Dr. Mia Markey in Portugal. This class counts toward a technical elective requirement for all four technical areas in BME, and carries a Global Cultures flag. Watch the program video to learn more.

BME 333T Engineering Communication and Global Challenges
Maymester is offered by Biomedical Engineering Lecturer Dr. Brandi DeMont in Italy. This class counts toward the BME 333T Engineering Communication degree requirement and carries a Global Cultures flag.

BME 353 Transport Phenomena in Living Systems Maymester is offered by Biomedical Engineering Professor Dr. James Tunnell in England. This class counts toward the BME 353 degree requirement. Watch the program video to learn more.

Many more faculty-led short-term programs are available to all BME students.

Semester Exchange

BME students have the opportunity to also study at exchange partner institutions across the world. Most BME students who take advantage of this opportunity can do so in the fall of their sophomore or junior years.
