Raiyan Zaman, who received her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2011, has been awarded Pathway to Independence funding by the National Institute of Health.
The objective of the award is to help outstanding postdoctoral researchers complete needed, mentored training and transition in a timely manner to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. The goal of the NIH Research Career Development program is to ensure that a diverse pool of highly skilled and trained scientists are available in appropriate scientific disciplines to address the nation's biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs.
Zaman is an American Heart Association postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford University School of Medicine where she developed a catheter-based imaging system to detect vulnerable plaques. As a doctoral student at The University of Texas at Austin she worked with Professors Grady Rylander and Ashley J. Welch.
