Shelly Sakiyama-Elbert
Chair
Shelly Sakiyama-Elbert became chair of of the Department of Biomedical Engineering in 2016. She holds the Fletcher Stuckey Pratt Chair in Engineering. Sakiyama-Elbert’s research interests include biomaterials, drug delivery, tissue engineering, nerve regeneration and stem cell biology with applications for therapies for spinal cord and peripheral nerve injury. She is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Biomedical Engineering Society.
