The University Co-Operative Society awarded BME student Aydin Zahedivash with a $3,000 George H. Mitchell Award for Academic Excellence.

Each spring, the University of Texas at Austin, in conjunction with the University Co-Op, selects up to seven undergraduate students to award for their scholarly or academic achievement. Aydin was one of these seven students and one of the three students awarded the $3,000 prize. His research is titled, “Automated Coronary Plaque Characterization and Risk Assessment Using Intravascular Optical Coherence Tomography and a Smart-Algorithm Approach,” which he is working in Professor Thomas Milner's lab.

These awards allow professors to nominate undergraduate students in recognition of their hard work and extraordinary contributions to their fields of study.
