 2018 AACR ASCO faculty600

Thomas Yankeelov, professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Dell Medical School, was selected to be a faculty member at the Annual American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)/American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop.

The AACR/ASCO Annual American Association for Cancer Research Workshop brings together clinical fellows and junior faculty clinical researchers in all oncology specialties to learn about the essentials of effective clinical trial designs of therapeutic interventions in cancer treatment.

Yankeelov was one of 27 faculty members invited to lead the program. He served as a faculty member in the centerpiece of the workshop: the Protocol Development Groups (PDGs). The PDGs meet every day and the goal of them is for assigned faculty to help training physician scientists develop their own clinical trials. Yankeelov also gave two seminars, one titled “Imaging in an Era of Targeted Therapy and Immunotherapy” and another titled “Imaging Endpoints” which focused on advanced imaging in clinical trials.

Yankeelov is currently leading a clinical trial in partnership with Texas Oncology, Seton Healthcare, and Austin Radiological Association, in an effort to develop models to predict cancer development.
