The University of Texas at Austin’s Office of the Vice President for Research awarded nine biomedical engineering undergraduate students with Undergraduate Research Fellowships for the spring semester. The fellowships provide up to $1,000 support for scholarly research projects, including covering costs associated with independent research projects that are supervised by faculty. Congratulations to the following students:

  • Alexandra Atalis (supervisor Dr. James Tunnell; The Concentration and Penetration of Antibody and Peptide-Conjugated Gold Nanorods in Multicellular Tumor Spheroids)
  • Ashvin Bashyam (supervisor Dr. Stanislav Emelianov; Optimization of Photoacoustic Tomography for Clinical Applications)
  • Elizabeth Fischer (supervisor Dr. Nicholas Peppas; Surface decoration of poly(methacrylic acid-co-N-vinyl-pyrrolidone) hydrogels)
  • Rafael Fricks (supervisor Dr. Andrew Dunn; Throughput Evaluation of Two-Photon Systems for Automated Acquisition Applications in Cerebrocortical Functional Imaging)
  • Justin Houser (supervisor Dr. Jeanne Stachowiak; Exploring the Role of Protein-Protein Crowding in Clathrin Mediated Endocytosis)
  • Yasmine Khairandish (supervisor Dr. Nicholas Peppas; Hydrogel nanoparticles for targeted oral vaccine delivery)
  • Jay Shah (supervisor Dr. James Tunnell; Analyzing Uptake and Localization of Gold Nanoparticles in Monolayer Cell Culture for the Photothermal Therapy of Cancer)
  • Anirudh Sharma (supervisor Dr. James Tunnell; Photothermal Therapy with Gold Nanoparticles in Multicellular Tumor Spheroids)
