Each year, the Student Engineering Council presents six awards to undergraduate students who have positively affected the Cockrell School of Engineering student community, led and supported student organizations, and dedicated themselves to pursuing their visions. Recipients receive a framed certificate and $200 award.

Salazar has displayed leadership and participated with a number of student organizations, including the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Advisory Board (BME-UAB), the Biomedical Outreach and Leadership Team (BOLT), Beta Mu Epsilon, the Roden Leadership Program, the Student Engineering Council, Student Engineers Educating Kids (SEEK), and the BME Student Giving Campaign Committee.
