Professor Michael Sacks recently participated on a bio-artificial heart panel hosted by the National Institutes of Health's National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

The NHLBI Bio-Artificial Heart Workshop took place on May 23, 2013 in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Sacks spoke on the role of biomechanics, modeling, and simulation in the development of a bio-artificial heart.

According to the NHLBI, about 3,000 people in the U.S. are on the waiting list for a heart transplant on any given day, with about 2,000 donor hearts available each year.
