On February 16, 2014, biomedical engineering undergraduate student Divya Ramamoorthy delivered a 12-minute talk to an audience of middle school students about generating heart tissue and the spirit of collaboration in research at Austin's second annual TEDxYouth event. Ramamoorthy, who works in Laura Suggs' Laboratory for Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering, was invited to speak after event organizers saw her featured in a Business Insider list of Impressive Students at The University of Texas at Austin.

Ramamoorthy ,who mentors a 5th grader and who has participated with the student organization SEEK (Student Engineers Educating Kids), jumped at the chance to visit with younger students about her experience in the research environment with regenerative medicine and biomedical engineering.

The theme for February's event was Re:Solve. Event organizers invited participants to Re:Solve old problems by looking at them in new and inspiring ways and turning ideas into action.

TEDxYouth@Austin is a TEDx program. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created TEDx, which are local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
