Mia K. Markey has been selected for the 2006 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Section Outstanding Teaching Award.

Mia K. Markey has been selected for the 2006 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Section Outstanding Teaching Award. The American Society for Engineering Education is the premier organization of engineering education and its highly coveted teaching awards recognize true leaders in innovative teaching and dedication to student learning. Prof. Markey was recognized for developing innovative teaching techniques, dedication to student mentorship, and exceptional teaching performance in required undergraduate and graduate courses. She received the award at the annual ASEE GSW conference on March 17th. Prof. Markey gratefully acknowledges the support of several UT programs to enhance teaching effectiveness, especially the assistance of the Cockrell School of Engineering's Faculty Innovation Center directed by Dr. Kathy J. Schmidt. For example, at the ASEE GSW conference, Dr. Markey gave a presentation on the use of hyperlinks to enhance PowerPoint-based course notes. Her co-authors were Dr. Kathy Schmidt and BME junior Seth Hays. Seth Hays'work on the project was supported by a Faculty And Student Teams for Technology (~FAST Tex) grant from the Center for Teaching and Learning.
