Three biomedical engineering undergraduate students were honored at the Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program's Excellence Awards Banquet on April 24, 2014 for their participation in the Texas Research Experience (TREX) Program.

The TREX Program offers valuable research opportunities for undergraduate engineering students and aims to ignite interest in academia and industry research careers. Selected TREX participants demonstrate exceptional academic competence, leadership skills, independence, ingenuity, and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities.

The recognized students were:

Esteban Esquivel working in Dr. Laura Suggs' lab: "Enhancing the Regenerative Potential of Adipose-derived Stem Cells by Genetic and Hypoxic Preconditioning."

Karla Sanchez working in Dr. Laura Suggs' lab: "Dynamically Tunable Gels to Examine the Influence of Stiffness on Tumor Progresion."

Ursula Nguyen working in Dr. Mia Markey's lab: "Variations in Breast Skin Thickness in Different Imaging Modalities."
