Margo Cousins, the BME Academic Advising Coordinator, and Arohi Ranade, a BME senior, have both been awarded by the Cockrell School of Engineering for their exceptional leadership of First-Year Interest Groups throughout the Fall 2017 semester
Entering engineering freshman can enroll in a First-Year Interest Group (FIG) to them transition into university life. FIG facilitators and mentors help students succeed by supporting them academically, developmentally and socially.
Cousins leads three FIGs for new BME students. She was chosen as the 2017 Outstanding FIG Facilitator based on nominations received from students participating in the FIG program. Her students said she was approachable, organized and cared about their well-being, both personal and academic.
Ranade is a FIG peer mentor for new BME students. She was chosen as the 2017 Outstanding FIG Mentor Award based on student nominations. Out of the 65 FIG mentors who were eligible, Ranade received the most nominations.
