Two startups with connections to the Department of Biomedical Engineering have graduated from The University of Texas at Austin’s startup incubator, Austin Technology Incubator (ATI).
Alafair Biosciences develops and commercializes medical devices that are on the forefront of patient care. Their products are based on patented hydrogel technologies. The company was co-founded by Sarah Mayes, a Ph.D. alum of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, who serves as Alafair’s Director of R&D.
Sarah Mayes received her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2013. She is co-inventor of the Alafair technology.
Aeglea Biotherapeutics, is a biotech company committed to developing enzyme-based therapeutics to treat cancer. The company was founded by Professor of Biomedical Engineering George Georgiou and had its initial public offering in the spring of 2016.
