John Clegg, a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Nicholas Peppas, has received the Graduate School's Outstanding Academic Employee Award for Teaching Assistant.

Clegg was nominated for his outstanding service record, enthusiasm for education, quality of work, and professional attitude toward his employment. In addition to his role as a teaching assistant, Clegg has served as a mentor in the Graduates Linked with Undergraduates in Engineering (GLUE) program, chair of the graduate recruitment student committee, as well as chair of the Graduate-Undergraduate Research Union (GURU).

He has an exceptional interest in education, mentoring, and helping others which has helped him excel in his TA positions and voluntary work. His enthusiasm and advocacy for the BME department has impacted both students, faculty, and staff alike, leading to his strong nomination for the award.

The University Co-op in conjunction with the Graduate School awards students, scholars, teachers and administrators at the university to recognize excellence in graduate academics, teaching, and professional services.

The William S. Livingston Outstanding Graduate Student Academic Employee Awards honor outstanding performance by graduate student academic employees. In addition to the award, Clegg will receive $2000.

The Co-op honored the award winners at a reception on April 30, 2019.
