The University Co-operative Society and The University of Texas at Austin recognized two biomedical engineering undergraduate students with University Co-op George H. Mitchell Student Awards for Academic Excellence at a ceremony on May 2.

The University Co-operative Society and The University of Texas at Austin recognized two biomedical engineering undergraduate students with University Co-op George H. Mitchell Student Awards for Academic Excellence at a ceremony on May 2.

Ryan Truby and James Salazar were two of seven students who received awards at the 13th  annual ceremony.

Truby was one of three undergraduates to receive a second prize $5,000 award for his research on Synthesis of a Hybrid Plasmonic-Superparamagnetic Contrast Agent for Magneto-Photo-Acoustic Imaging. His research was supervised by Professor Stanislav Emelianov and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Kim Homan.

Salazar was one of three undergraduates to receive a third prize $2,000 award for his research on the Investigation of Breast Morphology Using Quantitative Imaging. His research was supervised by Professor Mia Markey.

The awards acknowledge undergraduate students nominated by their professors for recognition of their hard work and extraordinary contributions to their fields of study.
