The University of Texas at Austin's Department of Biomedical Engineering will host the Society for Biomaterials' Biomaterials Day on Friday, June 2, 2017.

The one-day symposium will enhance networking between academic, industrial, and governmental sectors and increase student exposure to exciting biomaterials research. The event will feature talks from experts in the fields of biomaterials and a poster competition for students and postdoctoral fellows.

Speakers include:

  • Shelly Sakiyama-Elbert, The University of Texas at Austin (Keynote)

  • Anjan Contractor, BeeHex, "Rethink Personalization with 3D Food Printing"

  • Michael Detamore, The University of Oklahoma, "Will Chondroinductive Materials Revolutionize Cartilage Regeneration?"

  • Melissa Grulan, Texas A&M University, " 'Self-fitting' shape memory polymer (SMP) scaffolds to treat craniomaxillofacial (CMF) bone defects"

  • Patrick Kelley, UT Austin Dell Medical School, "Clinical Application of Biomaterials Today; What We Need for Tomorrow And How Value-Based Healthcare Will Impact Future Biomaterial Adoption"

  • Hyun Jung Kim, The University of Texas at Austin, "Microengineered Human Gut-on-a-Chip: From Organ Mimicry to Precision Medicine"

  • Jordan Miller, Rice University, "3D Printing of Engineered Tissue with Vascular Networks"

  • Daniel Siegwart, UT Southwestern Medical Center, "Non-viral CRISPR/Cas gene editing enabled by co-delivery of mRNA and sgRNA inside of synthetic lipid nanoparticles"

Registration for the event is $50 for SFB and non-SFB members and $25 for students and postdoctoral fellows. View the agenda, learn more about the speakers, and register here.
