Ayoub Receives SB3C People's Choice Poster Award

Salma Poster

Salma Ayoub, a graduate student working with Professor Michael Sacks, was the first place winner of the People's Choice Poster Award at the 2015 Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering, and Biotransport Conference.

Her poster titled "Microgeometry & Microenvironment of Mitral Valve Interstitial Cells Under Physiological Loads" was selected out of more than 300 posters presented at the conference.

Five million people are diagnosed with heart valve disease in the U.S. each year & nearly 40,000 patients undergo mitral valve repair. Improvements of heart valve disease and development of novel therapies rest on a strong fundamental knowledge of native valve function. The aim of Ayoub's project is to measure and quantify the three-dimensional microenvironment and geometric deformation of valve cells under physiological load to develop future computational models.
