Ramamoorthy Makes Glamour’s “Top 10 College Women” List

Divya Ramamoorthy, a biomedical engineering junior, was selected as one of Glamour’s Top 10 College Women, for her work generating heart tissue. Ramamoorthy is conducting research with Professor Laura Suggs' Laboratory for Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering, under the leadership of graduate student Laura Geuss.

Ramamoorthy received a $3,000 scholarship and was honored at an award ceremony at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. The presentation included a speaker panel that featured First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, actress Gaby Hoffmann, best-selling author Jennifer Weiner, and L’Oréal Paris SVP of U.S. Marketing, Malena Higuera. Winners also took The tours of LinkedIn and Google, spent some time mentoring high school students, and saw the musical Chicago on Broadway.

Glamour introduced all our winners to mentors in their respective fields. Ramamoorthy spoke to U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D., who shared insights on work life balance and said: "I began my first nonprofit at 17. I learned you're never too young or too old to create change."

Ramamoorthy has also been recognized on Business Insider list of Impressive Students at The University of Texas at Austin and gave a talk to middle school students on generating heart tissue and the spirit of collaborative research at Austin’s TEDxYouth.
