Nicholas Peppas was elected President-elect of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, an international society of science and engineering.

He will begin his term as president-elect on July 1, 2021, followed by a year term as president, and another year as past-president.

President-elect designee Peppas is a professor in The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Pharmacy, and Dell Medical School’s Department of Pediatrics, Surgery, and Perioperative Care.

He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Medicine, National Academy of Inventors, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a member of the European, Chinese, Canadian, French, Spanish, and Greek academies. He has received honorary doctorates from Italy, Greece, Slovenia and Spain, and numerous recognitions for pioneering work in biomaterials, drug delivery, and regenerative medicine.

Peppas was inducted into Sigma Xi in 1973 and is a recipient of the Sigma Xi Monie A. Ferst Award. Sigma Xi is the one of the oldest and largest scientific organizations in the world.
