Three Texas BME students, Adrian Jeyakumar, Morgan Owens, and Andrew Robinson, were honored with Student Leader Awards from the Cockrell's Engineering Student Life in recognition of their work to motivate, guide, mentor, and support Cockrell School's student organizations.

Undergraduate student Adrian Jeyakumar was reconized for his work serving as president and vice president of internal affairs for the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Advisory Board as well as for leadership positions with the Cockrell School's Student Engineering Council and Texas Consulting. During the pandemic, he created an event series to help students explore career options. 

Undergraduate student Morgan Owens was recognized for contributions made in her roles as vice presidnt of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), as an educational advancement foundation captain for the Delta Xi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and as an active member of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society. She helped develop the "Demand for Change in Cockrell School" proposal and worked with Cockrell leadership to establish the new John W. Hargis Lounge. 

Graduate student Andrew Robinson was recognized for his work as a founding member and treasurer of the Graduate Students for Underrepresented Minorities and as a graduate student representative for the Texas BME Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. He organized and ran a town hall instrumental to the department's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee's development of a strategic plan.
