ABSTRACT:
Neuronal voltage activity is the basis of communication and computation in neural circuits. However, directly capturing these voltage dynamics in vivo remains a major challenge. I will discuss my work on developing high-speed image sensors and systems for direct optical readout of neuronal voltage signals. I will conclude by discussing my ongoing and future work using these tools to study how different types of cells in the hippocampus interact during learning and memory consolidation - processes central to cognition and frequently disrupted in neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy.
