
Summer Undergraduate Research Program in Cellular and Molecular Imaging for Diagnostics and Therapeutics

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM
The University of Texas at Austin Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Department of Biomedical Engineering announce an NSF-funded program for the summer of 2008 for undergraduates interested in cellular and molecular imaging research. Students will be trained in laboratory methods and work on independent projects under the supervision of a faculty mentor. Project areas are interdisciplinary and encompass the fields of chemistry, biochemistry and biomedical engineering. Students will participate in a weekly research seminar series and professional development activities, in addition to engaging in a program aimed at developing scientific creativity. The summer program will conclude with a poster session and open house hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Department of Biomedical Engineering. Along with an outstanding research experience for the summer, all REU students will also participate in the "craft of creativity" which is an exciting and fun way to explore and expand on brainstorming and critical thinking.
SCHEDULE
AND SUPPORT
The ten week program runs from June 2
to August 8, 2008. Each student will be awarded a salary of $3,500, housing in
a dormitory, and a meal plan. Some travel funds will be available to help
defray the cost of traveling to Austin.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Students in
their sophomore or junior years of
college, with strong credentials and majoring in chemistry, biochemistry,
chemical engineering, biomedical
engineering, or closely related discipline, are encouraged to apply.
