Mia K. Markey has been selected for the 2006 ASEE Gulf-Southwest Section Outstanding Teaching Award.
Tania Betancourt and Ajay Seth shared the Schlumberger Grand Award for technical papers they submitted for review (Nano/Micro/Bio and Computation & Simulation/Signal Processing/System Control, respectively).
Dr. Nicholas Peppas, professor of biomedical engineering, chemical engineering and pharmaceutics at The University of Texas at Austin has been elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering, widely considered the highest honor earned in the engineering profession. Peppas is recognized as the father of modern drug delivery and his induction to the Academy acknowledges his pioneering work "on development of biomedical and drug-delivery applications of polymer (plastic) networks and hydrogels."
On February, 16, 2006 Dr. Grady Rylander and Dr. Tom Milner received a 5 yr $2.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Eye Institute, for glaucoma and related neurodegenerative research.
Tania Betancourt, a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering and an NSF/IGERT Fellow spent the months of August and September 2005 at the University of Santiago de Compostela on a medical internship.

Bo Chen and Hyun Wook Kang have been honored with grants from the United States Air Force to present their work to the 2006 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Mia K. Markey recently received a Carnegie Mellon Recent Alumni Award for 2007.
The recipients of the Fall 2007 Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) Competition have been announced by the Vice President for Research.
