Taylor Johnson, a senior biomedical engineering undergraduate student, has been selected to participate in the Science Mentoring and Diversity Program (SDMP). SMDP is a competitive one-year career mentoring program that pairs ethnically diverse students or early career researchers with industry mentors who work at companies in medical technology, biotechnology, and consumer healthcare.

taylor johnsonJohnson is one of 37 scholars to participate in the 2019 biotechnology section. As part of the program, she attended the SDMP Medtech conference in Boston, a networking event that featured panels from CEOs and vice presidents of medical technology companies.

Johnson, who is interested in pursuing graduate school for engineering education as well as industry, finds the mentorship experience valuable. Her mentor, Michael Friedman, works with biopharmaceutical company Amgen, attended graduate school earlier in his career. Through the program, Johnson regularly communicates with her mentor to receive feedback and guidance navigating professional matters.
