Professor Stanislav Emelianov has been named Section Editor for Advances in Technology for the new open access journal Photoacoustics.

The journal was launched by Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific and medical information products and services. The goal for the editors is to contribute a medium for reporting on significant process in the field, as well as developing a community of scientists with interest in the application of photoacoustics.

Emelianov is a leading researcher in the field of photoacoustics used for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic applications. He is the co-director of the Center for Emerging Imaging Technologies and operates the Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Imaging based on photoacoustic techniques is considered the fastest growing bio-imaging modality. The latest technologies like novel light sources, advanced ultrasonic detectors, novel contrast generation approaches and data processing and inversion methods are advancing to enable more accurate and quantitative use of photoacoustic techniques. These techniques are expected to impact the future of optical methods and bring important new performance in sensing and imaging sciences.

First publications of the journal are now available online
