Cockrell School Ranked No. 5 Best Engineering School in the World

In the 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which evaluates more than 1,200 international higher education institutions, the Cockrell School maintained its standing as one of the top five best engineering programs in the world.

ARWU ranks the Cockrell School at No. 5 in the engineering/technology and computer sciences field, following MIT, Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The ranking places Texas Engineering at No. 3 among U.S. public universities.

Overall, The University of Texas at Austin is ranked No. 37 in the world, No. 11 among U.S. public universities and No. 27 in the nation.

ARWU rates global universities using academic and research performance indicators including: the number of alumni and staff who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers in 21 broad subject categories, the number of articles published in the journalsNature and Science, the number of papers indexed in major citation indices and the per capita performance of institutions. The rankings are compiled by the Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

In the past year, the Cockrell School has ranked in the top 10 in both national and international rankings, most recently being ranked as the No. 10 best graduate engineering program in U.S. News & World Report's 2016 graduate program rankings.
