Professor brings new dimension in cancer research to UT

Research conducted by Prof. Muhammad Zaman, who recently moved to UT BME, may one day revolutionize the way the pharmaceutical industries approach cancer. In his most recent paper published by Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences USA (PNAS) Zaman and his co-workers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Pittsburgh and Boston University describe the mechanism by which tumor cells migrate in 3D matrices. This study reports how both cellular and matrix mechanical, biochemical and biophysical properties simultaneously regulate the movement of the tumor cell and identifies previously unknown mechanisms for tumor cell migration in native like matrices.
