Drs. Laura Suggs, Lisa Brannon-Peppas, and Krishnendu Roy elected leaders of the Society for Biomaterials

Three BME professors were elected officers of the Society for Biomaterials in the recently completed elections: Professor Laura Suggs was elected Chair of the Tissue Engineering Division of the Society, otherwise known as the Special Interest Group (SIG), Lisa Brannon-Peppas was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Drug Delivery SIG and Krishnendu Roy was elected Vice Chair of the Cell and Organ Therapy SIG. The Tissue Engineering SIG is in charge of all programmatic and other activities in the area of utilization of biomaterials as scaffolds for tissue engineering processes. The Drug Delivery SIG is in charge of programmatic and scientific activities in the areas of drug and protein delivery and the use of biomaterials as carriers in such applications. The Cell and Organ Therapy SIG promotes research on biological substitutes that enhance, maintain, or restore the functions of tissues and organs.
