Peppas elected Chair-elect of AIMBE College of Fellows

Dr. Nicholas Peppas was elected Chair-elect of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Professor Kenneth Diller, Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Department noted that Peppas "has been elected to one of the most prestigious and responsible positions in the field of Biomedical Engineering". In this position he will lead the more than 400 fellows of AIMBE who are elected by secret vote of their colleagues. The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering was founded in 1991 to establish a clear and comprehensive identity for the field of medical and biological engineering - which is the bridge between the principles of engineering science and practice, and the problems and issues of biological and medical science and practice. AIMBE is an umbrella organization for more than 15 scientific and technical organizations involved in biomedical work. Peppas has served before as President of the Controlled Release Society in 1987-88 and the Society for Biomaterials in 2003-04, as Director of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 1999-2002, as Chairman of its Materials Division and as a Director of its Food, Pharmaceuticals and Bioengineering Division. All these are founding Societies of AIMBE.
