BME junior receives George H. Mitchell Award

On April 28th, BME junior Peter (Yicun) Jian received a University Coop/George H. Mitchell Award for his paper in Advances in Bionanotechnology entitled "Temperature-Sensitive Polymer-Gold Nanocomposites as Intelligent Therapeutic Systems". Peter was selected as one of only nine award recipients in this university-wide competition open to undergraduates from all departments. He received a $2,000 award. Peter has been working in the laboratory of Dr. Nicholas A Peppas for over three semesters under the supervision of ChE PhD student Don Owens. His research has focused on the development of externally triggered nanodevices for release and targeted treatment of diseases. He has also published three proceedings papers and has received several regional awards for his research. This summer he will be an intern in the prestigious MD Anderson clinical internship program.
