Shanique Roberson wins at NSBE Confererence
Shanique Roberson, an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Muhammad H. Zaman's Laboratory for Molecular and Cellular Dynamics, recently won 1st place in the "Undergraduate Students in Technical Research" competition at the NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) fall regional conference. She will now go on to represent Region 5 (Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisisana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas) at the upcoming NSBE nation convention in Columbus, OH. for a $1000 first prize. The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is a professional organization that provides students with leadership, academic and professional development and opportunities. NSBE's mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. The Undergraduate Students in Technical Research (USTR) competition is designed to encourage minorities to participate in technical research and to pursue graduate level degrees in the STEM fields. It provides an opportunity to enhance technical writing and poster presentation skills. Participants display their research via a 3’x4’ poster presentation, using a variety of graphical wall displays, working models, and/or material samples. Participants are judged on the technical content of their display, oral presentation skills and a 10-minute question and answer session.
