April 2004 Technology Review

In the April 2004 issue of "Technology Review" there is a positive commentary about the research of Prof. Rebecca Richards-Kortum. Under the title "Shining Light on Cancer Diagnoses" the article comments on the "new technology (of) a pencil-size probe that shines ultraviolet and visible light onto the cervix". The article goes on to explain the principle of the method of cancer diagnosis which is based on increased fluorescence from precancerous cells.

The article comments on four leading techniques in this field (one of the other three mentioned is that of our own PhD graduate Nimmi Ramanujam, a 2003 TR100 awardee) and indicates that regulatory filing for the UT/MD Anderson device "could come as early as next year".

"Technology Review" is a leading technical magazine of MIT with a circulation of 125,000 copies. Among other activities, the magazine is known for sponsoring the TR100 awards recognizing young innovators.
