Thank you for your interest in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Our mission is to educate undergraduate and graduate students in the fundamentals of engineering and science as they relate to medicine, and to perform multi-disciplinary, disease-oriented research at the molecular and cellular levels. We are building a world-class faculty for BME and enrolling outstanding students as we continue our successful pursuit of placing among the elite Biomedical Engineering programs in the nation. Providing impetus to this pursuit is our close collaboration with the UT Health Science Center and the UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, both in Houston. Through this collaboration, BME students receive clinical-based instruction and experience the interdisciplinary nature of patient care; clinical etiquette; and operating room, intensive care, and labor & delivery procedures.
The Undergraduate degree program in Biomedical Engineering offers the following technical area options: Biomedical Imaging & Instrumentation (Digital or Imaging Applications), Cell & Bio-molecular Engineering, Computational Biomedical Engineering, and Pre-medical Engineering. For those students seeking to enter the workforce with a BME bachelor's degree, career opportunities are available in private industry, hospitals, research facilities of educational and medical institutions, and government agencies.
Thank you again for your interest in Biomedical Engineering at UT Austin. We are here to serve our students and the citizens of Texas, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kenneth R. Diller, Chairman
Department of Biomedical Engineering
